Process engineering
Ensuring safe operation is a key element in Ramboll’s process engineering design. Every project is developed in close coordination with our technical safety team and is subject to a safety analysis check - ensuring that all client standards and relevant codes are met. In focusing on process safety, we have developed our own PSV calculation tool that enables precise blowdown and release calculations.
Flow modelling and simulation provides insights into the physics describing flow behaviour from reservoir pore to process facility.
Our early-phase studies are based on accurate process simulations and a strong focus on flow assurance and loss prevention strategies, including material selection. We apply our vast knowledge of process engineering, oil and gas facilities, pipeline systems and fluid thermodynamics to deliver optimised system design.
Production facilities and terminals are continuously undergoing changes and are subject to lifetime extensions. Debottlenecking is therefore an important means of quantitative process optimisation.
Ramboll's process engineering experts have debottlenecking experience from a range of brownfield projects and can design solutions that increase production with minimal retrofits.
In response to stringent environmental regulations and the consistent focus on sustainability, Ramboll has specialised in ‘green’ projects such as zero flare systems and emissions studies.
We apply our process engineering services for Offshore platforms, Floating production, Pipelines & subsea, Onshore production & refining, Terminals, storage and pipelines and Gas & LNG.
Hydrocarbon emissions from platforms and refineries are a source of atmospheric pollution, and there is a strong drive in the industry to find environment-friendly solutions. Ramboll Oil & Gas has considerable experience in this field, and recently we completed the design of a flare gas recovery system for the North Sea platform, South Arne operated by Hess Denmark.
The Tyra Field is the largest gas field in the Danish North Sea sector – it is operated by Maersk Oil, and has been producing since 1984. Ramboll has been part of the Tyra East Rationalisation Project; just one phase in a series of Optimisation Projects in the field.
We carried out a significant engineering project for the Polvo Field Development off the coast of Brazil.
In 2006 Ramboll Oil & Gas commenced our biggest project to date when we initiated the pre-engineering work on the Nexus project for APL NEXUS and Samsung. Nexus is a generic FPSO with a free and fully weather-vaning turret mooring that can accommodate up to 6 risers.
Ramboll was given the task of remodelling and enlarging an existing old flare system at the Dukhan oil field on the west coast of Qatar. In addition, we were to find a method for reclaiming some of the gas that would otherwise be burnt in the tower. At last, we were to implement improved combustion technology to obtain what is known as a “smokeless flare”- which means a flame without smoke.
After more than 30 years of operation, the Norsea Gas Terminal in Emden, Germany, needed to be refurbished to maintain safe and reliable gas transportation. The major scope of work included new receiving-, gas heating-, utilities- and process facilities. Ramboll carried out the FEED study proposing the technical solution.
