Sustainability services

Sustainability has many definitions. At Ramboll, we use the UN’s holistic definition of sustainable development. We do not see buildings as isolated sustainable systems – we see them as part of neighbourhoods and cities.

A good business

Sustainable construction was once an additional investment reserved for the most idealistic of developers. Today’s soaring energy prices make sustainable construction good business for everyone. The additional investment in low energy housing is repaid by savings in energy use over the lifetime of the houses. Sustainable design shows responsible behaviour and is becoming “the license to operate”.

Sustainability features

At Ramboll, we see it as our mission to promote sustainable design (economically, environmentally and socially sustainable). For each project, we aim to incorporate the sustainable design features most appropriate to each specific site. Such features include:

  • Passive solar design
  • Energy efficient design
  • Wind turbines integrated into the building
  • Active solar heating
  • Photovoltaics
  • Biomass heating
  • Ground source heat pumps
  • River or ocean based cooling
  • Combined heat and power systems
  • Extensive sedum green roof

When required, we make sure buildings are certified according to international standards and organisations such as:

  • The US LEED system
  • The British BREEAM system
  • The German Passiv Haus system
  • The Nordic Svanemærke system
  • Zero carbon emissions
  • The Australian Green Star
  • The UAE Emirates Green  Building Council
  • The Qatar Green Building Council
  • The Saudi Green Building Council
