Energy

The challenge that lies ahead for the energy sector is to plan and implement a sustainable energy system that is capable of meeting the growing demand for energy while at the same time limiting climate change. Such a system will require substantial reductions in our carbon emissions, which again will require a move away from fossil fuels to renewable energy sources. If renewables are to cover the world's energy demand and provide a secure and reliable energy supply, technology advances and intelligent interaction between supply and end-use will be at the top of the agenda for many years to come.

The race is on to secure the supply of reliable and affordable energy as well as optimising the way we produce and use energy in terms of efficiency and sustainability

Energy planning and strategy

Securing the supply of energy and optimising the way we produce and use energy in terms of efficiency and sustainability requires careful planning. It also requires the strength and courage to look beyond the fence and see energy as a holistic system with many interfaces.
We assist both the public and private sector in preparing their energy strategies and action plans. When doing so, we always look at the broader picture to determine the best solution for the production, transmission, distribution and use of energy.

Energy production facilities

Our clients have various energy production methods, including renewable energy sources such as biomass, wind, solar and waste as well as traditional fossil fuels like coal, oil and natural gas.
We are able to provide expert advice within all of these areas. This enables our clients to plan and implement systems that are future proof, cost conscious and practical.

Energy transmission and distribution

There is also an imminent need for improving the way energy is transmitted from low-carbon energy sources to local networks. This means laying international power transmission lines to integrate new offshore wind farms into the electricity grid. It means laying new transmission lines for new natural gas resources.  Also, it means expanding the district heating network to absorb all the available low-carbon heat, for example from large waste-to-energy plants.

As a multidisciplinary consultant, Ramboll offers clients solutions that take each of these options into account.

Energy services

We advice on every aspect of energy from the political decisions are made to the point when the energy produced is consumed. Our projects include the entire chain from energy strategies and plans to production and transmission facilities, including:
