Ramboll wins SSMB’s Building Award 2018
At a ceremony hosted by Steel Structures and Metal Buildings (SSMB) magazine on 2 May 2018, Ramboll’s Buildings team in India was honoured with the Best Building Award in the public sector for the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Institute of Medical Sciences and Research project, Ahmedabad, Gujarat.
An initiative of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC), the medical centre will be Asia’s largest multi-specialty hospital. Ramboll was appointed the structural consultant for the project to work in collaboration with Archimedes consultants to design this facility. The 1,611-bed, 18 storeys high medical centre will offer high-quality healthcare services and is equipped with a helipad to facilitate air ambulances.
The SSMB Awards recognises and celebrates individuals and firms that have displayed extraordinary work with steel and steel structures as well as consistently providing a high level of quality service over the years.

Ramboll was selected as the winner after SSMB judged all nominations against a set of parameters that included innovation, technology, sustainability, uniqueness, technical proficiency, engineering expertise and the speed of construction.

Located in Ahmedabad, this multi-speciality hospital is being constructed to store 1600 beds. It will also house a utility building and helipad and cover an area of 14,50,000 sq.ft.
