Groundbreaking ceremony kicks off construction of new Ducab headquarters
JASAF Building Technology Company LLC has been appointed to construct the new Ducab headquarters building. To mark the occasion, Ducab arranged for a ceremonial groundbreaking, and as recognition of the professional service provided by Ramboll, Ducab asked Ramboll’s Managing Director for the Middle East and Asia, Richard Beard, to be part of the ceremony along with Ducab executives, Eng. Jamal Salem Al Dhaheri (Chairman), Dr Ahmad Bin Hassan Al Shaikh (Vice-Chairman), Mabkhoot Al Menhali (Board member), Andrew Shaw (Managing Director) as well as Group Managing Director of JASAF, John Alford.
Ramboll was appointed as the Lead Consultant to provide multi-disciplinary architectural and engineering design services for the site supervision for the new Dubai Cable Company (Ducab) headquarters to be located on their existing facilities in Jebel Ali, Dubai. The new headquarters provide a distinct brand identity and comfortable meeting spaces for guests visiting Ducab’s plant as well as modern office accommodation for their staff.
From the outset, the building has been designed to be environmentally efficient and aims to achieve LEED Gold, Dubai Green Building and Safat Silver sustainability targets. The ground and first floors allow for a central core and double-height foyer serving open plan office wings to either side. The wings are long and narrow allowing natural light to penetrate deep into the occupied areas of the plan and allowing all occupiers external views. The upper floor features an outdoor planted terrace area, canteen, training rooms and an executive boardroom within a feature cantilever over the main entrance.
The philosophy is to shift the headquarters towards being a place of employee wellbeing. The upper floor provides a break from the daily business which is intended to manifest itself in a happier, more productive working environment. The roof has been designed to be free from the mechanical plant, providing an uncluttered aesthetic, leaving space available for both occupant use and solar panels. A proportion of the building’s energy demands is met by on-site energy production, contributing to the building’s sustainability credentials.
Ramboll provided the full project management and design services to the client, including architecture, mechanical & electrical engineering, sustainability consultancy, structural engineering, acoustics, contractor tendering management, cost consultancy, local authority liaison and architect of record services.
