Austrian students visit Ramboll’s Dubai office

24 Engineering students from the University of Innsbruck, Austria visited Ramboll’s Dubai office last week with the purpose of learning more about Ramboll’s iconic projects in the Middle East.

Two projects were presented - Ferrari World and Damac Heights.  Iain Sproat gave an outline of Ramboll’s services and the construction of Ferrari World project, including the landmark roof – one of the largest space frame structures ever built.

Abhijeet Kulkarni presented Damac Heights, one of the world’s highest residential towers located in Dubai Marina.  Students gained an awareness of the multi-disciplinary approach taken in the designs together with the challenges Ramboll overcame at the start of the construction due to the high-rise’s proximity to the Marina’s quay wall.

The students were keen to learn more about designing infrastructures for the Middle East’s hot climate and what materials should be considered for the construction of buildings.  Questions also included the reaction of various materials for the different types and sizes of buildings, as well as pressure distribution and wind tests for high-rises.
